Motivating Mom: Nikki Miller
Each month we are celebrating a member of our FIT4MOM Fairfield County Village for her commitment to a healthy lifestyle and dedication to the FIT4MOM program.
Motivating Mom: Nikki Miller
I have had the pleasure of teaching Nikki in a few classes as well as taken classes with her. From the moment I met her I loved her energy. She is always in an upbeat mood and ready to work her hardest. She makes teaching class fun and joins in on the songs and games. Her daughters are also a pleasure in class, always participating. It's always great to have Nikki in a class. - Laura, Instructor
Love having Nikki and her girls in class! They all come to class with a smile, a themed outfit for the day and a great cheery attitude that can make you smile even when you are having “one of those days”. Nikki is a true star within our village - she motivates and inspires me every day. I love her attitude on life and raising children - she truly is an amazing role model. - Hana, Instructor
I love Nikki´s big smile, all her energy that she is sending out, her welcoming attitude. I didn’t have her in class often, but when it happened, she always pushed herself to or beyond limits and enjoyed working out and getting together with all the moms around. I am always admiring her running and triathlon trainings - maybe this year we will meet at the Greenwich Tri :-) Also I am still waiting for your sign up in Body Back to use the voucher you won :-) - Nina, Instructor
You know it’s going to be a good class when Nikki rolls in with her girls. What a fun family and Nikki’s outgoing and warm personality shines in both her and her daughter’s alike. Nikki is always there to tell a joke, make you laugh, or just chat. If you don’t follow her on social media...start! She makes me smile every day with her “Garage Door Runway” and her training schedule for her triathlons are something to marvel at! No question that Nikki is one motivating mama! - Lauren, Instructor
The perfect word to describe Nikki is motivating! She motivates me on a daily basis with her posts from her her runs or biking. I met Nikki about 4 years ago when I first started Strides. She instantly welcomed me to class and quickly became a friend I could look to for advice with my boys. We had many conversations before and after class at the Binney Park playground. She ALWAYS has a smile on her face. I don’t think I have ever seen her frowning. She is an inspiration physically and mentally. Her love and dedication to her girls, husband and job is phenomenal! She is the first to talk to a new mom in class and make them feel welcome. I have loved taking class and teaching class to her and her girls. Her girls have even taken Charlie and Mark under their wings by sharing snacks and toys with them. Now that she’s back at work full time and her girls are in school full time I look forward to Tuesday afternoons when she motivates me to get out of the house with a smile on my face! - Rachel, Instructor
Nikki and her two amazing girls (and sometimes husband) would always bring a smile to everyone’s faces when they were in class. The energy, enthusiasm, and persevering personalities are infections! I always looked forward to school vacations and summer, knowing Nikki was going to be in my classes. Nikki has never turned a challenge down...even when she forgot her sneakers one day, she was going to do the class in rain-boots...That's how dedicated she is to each and every workout. She is not only a great person but a wonderful mom and great friend! Anyone would be lucky to have the Miller family in their class! - Shana, Instructor
Nikki first started coming to my class when my son was going through a stroller tantrum phase. I kept apologizing to the moms, concerned his display was making their workout not-so-pleasant. Nikki, would say things like “Really? He was a disaster? I didn’t even notice”. She’s one of the main reasons I kept teaching and got through that phase! Nikki is driven, amazingly organized, motivated, and ambitious, does a million things, but still is totally down to earth, loves meeting new moms and is such a great example of what FIT4MOM is all about. She will always try to make time for Strides no matter what else is going on, and always has great ideas of ways to keep her littles ones (or not so little ones) happy during class. I love that after doing FIT4MOM run club 4 years ago, that she’s also gotten the triathlon bug and we get to run, bike and swim together. I am lucky to have met her through Stroller Strides! - Elysa, Instructor
Knowing Nikki's love for numbers and evenness, here's my big 4 I've learned from her:
1. Set big goals beyond your wildest dreams - from a first class, run club, a first 5k and now big races I have been in awe of Nikki's journey, I see a path she has trail blazed and I am eager to follow
2. SMILE Nikki always finds the joy in all situations and her smile only gets bigger when she knows her two little girls are watching
3. When it comes to THEMES go BIG - I have so many memories of Nikki and the girls coordinated to match whatever holiday or occasion making sure to have fun wherever the day leads
4. Mom hacks - she's a clever queen in this department and if you wonder how to get your little one to settle into a class, just ask her. -Jessica, Playgroup Captain
1) Who are the members of your family?
Brian - 38
Nikki - 37
Sofie - 6
Keira - 4
2) What is/was your career?
I have always been in education. I have a masters in Special education and I have taught grades 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7. Most of my career has been in middle school math. Currently, I am the Lower School instructional math coach and Lower school event coordinator.
3) How long have you been a member of FIT4MOM Fairfield County, and what has it done for you?
I took my FIRST ever stroller strides class in August of 2013 when I was 37 weeks pregnant with my second and had a 1 1/2-year-old. The class was so amazing, that I was automatically hooked and took classes up until I had Keira.
4) What is your favorite class exercise?
That is a tough one. I truly like them all. I like anything that challenges me and gets me out of my comfort zone. I also have a competitive side so I love a good game.
5) What keeps you coming back to Stroller Strides?
The instructors & the friendships!
I know that my girls are "big" for class but we all LOVE coming to class so much. We enjoy the camaraderie with the other moms and kiddos. The workouts are great and keep me in shape and motivated.
6) What is something that has surprised you about motherhood?
How lonely motherhood can be sometimes. Which is why I am so grateful I found this amazingly supportive community. All the moms in our village are different and unique but there is no judgment amongst us.
We have created lifelong friendships through Fit4Mom.
7) What are your 3 favorite things?
working out (especially with my friends)
8) What is your proudest mommy moment so far?
My proudest mommy moment so far...has been showing our girls that you can be STRONG, healthy, fit woman by making yourself a priority.
9) What advice would you give a new mother?
Everything is a "phase" and always keep a sense of humor!
But honestly, I tell all new moms that they should definitely try out stroller strides.
10) Anything you'd like to share about yourself?
That FIT4MOM is truly one of the greatest things I have done for my family.
I started running after I did the 5K training run club when my youngest was 4 months. I crossed the finish line pushing my double BOB when she was 6 months and I have completed countless races since then. Including two half marathons, three 10Ks, and about a dozen triathlons. I credit the run club for getting be starting and helping me find my passion as a runner.
Thank you, Nikki, for being such an inspiring part of Our Village in FIT4MOM Fairfield County.
